Singapore To Send Crack Team To Help KL Deal
With SEA Games Prostitutes
Singapore is fielding what is described as a
crack team to help Malaysian authorities deal with an anticipated influx of Thai
prostitutes ahead of next month's South East Asian Games in Kuala Lumpur.
A senior Malaysian immigration official
apparently told The Nation newspaper that Malaysia was
afraid visitors to Kuala Lumpur would get the wrong impression if
the city was packed with sex workers during the Sept 8-17 Games.
Malaysia has already sought the help of the Thai
authorities in stemming the flow, but it is perceived as insufficient.
Somehow, many Thai prostitutes continue to evade immigration checks and enter
Malaysia.
"This is where Singapore comes in, "
said Police Colonel Mohd Jangan bin Pelacuran. "Because hookers are drawn
to rich fat cats like moths to a flame, our Singaporean counterparts will help
us by detecting and catching them within Malaysia."
"Yes," said Assistant Superintendent
Khee Liap Kway, of Bedok Division. "We have to go undercover, literally
sometimes, to apprehend these women."
Staff Sergeant Chee Pao Niu agreed, saying,
"It's a dirty job, but someone's got to do them. It, I mean it. Please
don't tell my wife."
The KL Police also wish to prosecute those who
are caught engaged in sexual acts with the prostitutes. "We wish to charge
them with - what else? Illegal entry."
However, some prostitutes see this as unfair
persecution of a group of professionals who are providing a much needed service
to the sports community. Said Miss Bonkalonglong Plentiporn, 25, "All
these sportsmen need professional massage for their aches and pains. We're
extremely qualified to assist, because besides providing muscle relief, we can
also carry their balls."
